What Members Thought
This is a good old fashioned story about a boy and his dog. The bonus for us is that it takes place in West Virginia, although it's a part we've never been to. The story is engaging and we loved listening to Peter MacNicol narrate the story on audio CD.

I read this book at some point in my childhood - I remember feeling moved by the story, but that's about it. I think he saves the dog from a pretty bad fate. Scratch that, sorry, I'm thinking of Sounder. Maybe I haven't read this book after all. Newbery Medal winner 1992 -
