Brief Introduction:
After reading so many graphic novels that dealt with superheroes and electrifying bloody action scenes, I finally came across a graphic novel that is aimed at young adults, but actually deals with the more mundane aspects of our lives (or should I say, the more spooky and supernatural aspects of our lives). “Anya’s Ghost” is a young adult graphic novel by Russian born author Vera Brosgol and is also Vera Brosgol’s debut book and it has everything that you would enjoy from ...more

Thanks, Ksenia!
First I want to start with a HUGE THANK YOU to Ksenia of Polish Outlander for being awesomesauce and surprising me with a copy of this.
I kind of don't know where to begin other than to say I fell in love with this. The illustrations are just perfectly stylized and atmospheric, and incredibly expressive. This probably has less text than any graphic novel I've ever read (entire pages go by with no words), and yet it does ...more

This is a terrific graphic novel for middle grade readers. The story is rife with teenage angst as well as the difficulties for immigrant children to blend in and become "Americanized". And the ghost story is wonderfully creepy, becoming more and more unsettling as the tale progresses.
This has been the summer of graphic novels for us and we've discovered some really wonderful stories. Our oldest really liked this one and so did I. I especially loved the Russian background of the characters.

4.5 I liked this book. More of a 7th grade and up graphic novel it deals with typical teenage angst, bullying and being different. And oh yeah, there's a ghost!

My son and I read this and we both thought it was pretty creepy. I didn’t know that it also dealt with more teenage issues like kissing, smoking, relationships, murder and gossip.
It also dealt with a very angry ghost who wanted her life back and made some really bad decisions to try to get her life back. The ghost was just creepy and vindictive and it made it hard to enjoy the story. Anya took awhile to stand up for herself too and put the ghost in her place. In the end we thought the book was ...more

Anya falls down a well where she meets a ghost who’s been there since 1918. When Anya is rescued, she brings Emily the ghost with her who helps her take a test, with a boy she likes and dress for a date. Then the ghost begins to get, well, creepy.
