This is a wonderful autobiographical tale about a child with hearing impairment. The characters are all anthropomorphic bunnies, but the story is the author's own.
August 2016 update: our local library children's book club discussed this book for our summer graphic novel reads. It's a great tale and a fast read.

A graphic novel based on the childhood of the author as she lost her hearing due to meningitis at the age of four. The characters are bunnies and it chronicles her journey as she struggles with making sense of a world that has gone virtually silent. The colorful paneled graphic novel is divided into chapters to show a sense of time and/or theme division.

This was a touching and sympathetic memoir of being deaf within the world. Such great illustrations and really interesting situations. I definitely started to think about cochlear vs hearing aids vs signing--there was a bigger conversation here and it was nice to read it.

I just loved this book. I really adored this book, the illustrations, learning about hearing aids (no idea there were hearing aids called Phonic Ears and a microphone too) and a honest look at how this author overcame her hearing disability especially in terms of navigating friendships.

3. Pretty good, and not at all what I expected. It covers a lot so some storylines aren't as tight as they could be, but the illustrations are wonderful and the main character is super relatable.

This is a delightful mg/ YA graphic novel, about a young girl with profound hearing loss, who is primarily aware of her advantages: because she uses a phonic ear, she can hear her teacher anywhere in the building. What she really wants though is a best friend. This one is too bossy. This one seems to like her only for her hearing loss. Which friend will be just right? This is a Newberry Honor Book, I hope many people read it, because of this honor, which it well deserves.
