Harry Angstrom is socially retarded. And no, Sarah Palin, I'm not using that in a pejorative fashion. I'm using it in the strict definition of "late" - Rabbit has not developed any sense of what it's like for other people to exist around him. Or that they can hear him. I'm not sure what to think. This story was gripping and yet left me feeling somewhat empty. I was repelled, but I still want more.
It starts off slowly, almost too slowly, and its melancholy drift through a sad and unfulfilled life is perversely interesting and speaks of an older time.
I was more horrified by the prenatal drinking and smoking that Janice does than by the accident at the end. It's all too neglectful and selfish, but engaging all the same.

I first read this book years ago. Easily 10 years ago. The only thing I remembered was that the protagonist's name was Rabbit.
It appears that I enjoyed it long ago. I still liked it- but not so much this time around. It felt a little too real. Need some escapism in my life right now, I think.
