This is a good story in Dame Agatha's collection. It has a surprising ending, a least it was for me. And overall, the story had a rather twisted, almost creepy feel to it. It wasn't my favorite, but it was a good book and perfect for reading on a plane.

Tommy's aunt, Aunt Ada, dies and leaves them a painting of a house by a river. Tuppence is sure that she has seen it before. Then they begin to wonder about why another lady suddenly is picked up by relatives. This leads to an impromptu investigation by Tuppence, which Tommy is dragged into. Of course, Agatha Christie does not disappoint.

Tommy and Tuppence in late middle age. (They clearly don’t consider themselves to be elderly.) Tommy goes off for a ‘reunion’ in a secret place with secret service pals. Tuppence pursues an elderly lady who is missing from a nursing home. In her usual scattered manner, Tuppence approaches the problem inefficiently, puts herself in danger, and stumbles across multiple crimes and culprits.

This was my first Tommy and Tuppence novel. Although this was not the first in the series, I felt like there weren't any references I was missing. I enjoyed the novel - although the plot was a little over the top. I enjoyed the characters and how the story unfolded.

I do like Tommy and Tuppence and they just get better with age. They really stumbled into this mystery and there were lots of threads woven together at the end which made it a touch confusing but still a good book.

Not a horror story, but it did scare me. An interesting story and a rather good mystery.
