This was a First Reads win, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was an interesting story and a quick read. The first few chapters seemed to drown in metaphors, but it's not as obvious later on in the book. The story is intriguing, although it's hard to have any sympathy for the lead character, Lou. The story has a strong moral; it practically hits you over the head with it, but it is a worthwhile theme. This is a page turner in one sitting! I couldn't put it down. The Gift is a precious anecdote about making sure to take time in your busy world for your family, really loving and enjoying them. It really can be read in any season, not just a Christmas story. ...more
