I'm on a bit of an Agatha Christie kick lately. I'm reading quite a lot of military history/strategy/doctrine right now for Air War College (unfortunately the twelve 400-page books don't have ISBNs, so I'm not posting them here). So I'm in need of some quick reads that are more entertaining than brain drains. And Dame Agatha is always good for a good, entertaining mystery. I may follow Laurel and continue reading through her collected works, in effect, "A Year of Agatha." Though I've read many o ...more

Still one of my favorites. Full of men who can't possibly be that stupid, and then are. Bundle is one of my favorites, she's very similar to Tuppence in that she isn't as sweet as some Christie heroines. This newer edition from my library has a forward about the lack of political correctness and where it fits in the mindset of her time, but I don't think this one is all that bad, comparatively. These are usually headed by Bundle Brett who is the daughter of th ...more

I do like Superintendent Battle, but I missed Poirot. I especially missed Hugh Fraser when I realized that for the second time I’d been misled by an audio sam

This was a sequel to the Secret of Chimneys, which I enjoyed. This was a very fun mystery, and I was surprised at the reveal. I love the strong, chippy female characters Christie creates.

Have you ever thought up a practical joke to play on someone and then had it go spectacularly wrong? Well that's how the story starts out. Gerry loves to sleep in. So his friends play a joke on him while they are at a large home visiting. They buy alarm clocks and each of them puts one in his room, for a total of 8. But even that doesn't wake him up! He is discovered dead! And the mystery continues. It gets tied up with espionage. Inspector Battle is who solves the mystery. ...more
