This book was amazing. So well written and researched. I haven't read a book this good since the Time Travelers Wife. It's one of those books where when you're reading it and after you finish, you don't ever want to turn the tv on because you want to spend all of your time reading wonderful books that enlighten and inspire you. I don't like the circus (and part of why I hate them, along with zoos, is solidified in this book) but I loved this book. Clown haters don't have to worry. None are menti ...more

This would have been a pretty quick read, but other books took up my reading time. I liked it, was inclined to like Ito because of the author's association with NaNoWriMo, but I definitely lost interest at points. I wish I could give it 3 1/2 stars... The descriptions are lush and there's a good story there. I cared about the characters. I guess the ending didn't hit me all that hard, because I had forgotten the prologue and the mystery there since there was such a long time between when I start ...more

Big fat meh. And the ending is completely ludicrous.

Read this for Accra Book Club gathering in March. My sister had recommended it, and I bought it quite a while ago. Enjoyed it, and liked the portrayal of the main character in his old age, stuck in a nursing home, but still wanting to be on the road! ...more

It didn't take long. It was a decent diversion, but this is not a great book. Don't believe the hype. Implausibility piles up like waves and you will grit your teeth thinking "no, this is original; this is cool." Like I said, it won't take but a couple hours to read and you will be mildly entertained, but this is not a great book. ...more

I got this book for Christmas and read it on the plane from Indianapolis to Florida. It was so good I finished it in the two hour flight. It is funny and thrilling, romantic and heart-felt. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a quick read that will keep you engrossed.

I loved this book. It was American Historical fiction on a subject I had never explored before--the traveling circus. Very interesting perspective from a vet that worked most of his life in circuses and zoos. I loved the ending.

I didn't know what to expect when reading this book. I'm always drawn to books that have a good review or a lot of positive feedback. This one did not disappoint.

Great story!

I loved this book. Set amidst a traveling circus in the 1930s, it's got it all: romance, intrigue, adventure, despair, joy.

Read it. I don't think you'll regret it.

I enjoyed the circus history in the book and then it just turned into another love story.
