This story was familiar enough to me that I think I read it before. It would have been in January 2008, just prior to joining Goodreads. That's one of the reasons I like this site so much. I log what I read, so I just look it up if I'm unsure.

In any case, it was a very good story and it earned the rare privilege of being a reread. Throughout my childhood I often reread books, but lately I have too many books waiting on my to-read list and I do not often allow myself the luxury of a reread.

another great book in the series. i really like the characters and love that they are remaining the same. ive never read any book that takes place in africa and i really enjoy mccall smith's descriptions of the country and it's people. it really makes me want to visit there.

the book is fast and easy- i dont think itll take much time to get through the series. its a lot of fun to read- the mysteries she solves are interesting. i also am enjoying how there are a lot of morals- without the novel or

The follow up to No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency did not disappoint as can often happen. It was just as enjoyable as the first book. The main character, our No. 1 Lady Detective, finds herself getting some additional cases that are just as interesting as her previous set of cases. The reader is the same as the first book and again does a fantastic job with the various characters and accents. ...more

Not enough action for me, but the descriptions of what's going on are good. It is easy to place myself in Africa reading this book. The culture and motives behind their actions are explained well. ...more

I listened to this book on a trip from Pendleton to Eugene. It took most of the trip, so about 6 hours. I really enjoyed the book. I almost always start at the beginning of a series, but I was able to keep up with the story line just fine.

Still, I'd like to see what happens next in the story.

Now I have read the rest of the books in this series. The first two at least are so comfortable and insightful. A big plus for me is the setting in Botswana, a very different place than I am familiar with. The author brings Africa to life quite well.
