A delightful story of the life of Enzo the mutt and his human family told from the dog's perspective. Enzo is loyal, astute, adventurous, philosophical and just plain amusing. He understands the human world to some extent-even understands language but is thwarted in his desire to communicate by his flat tongue.
As Enzo is dying he recalls his first memories of puppy hood, to his first sight of Denny, his master. He tells the story of Denny's gains, losses and extremely hard times. Because he is D ...more

What a great book. If you liked Marley and Me, you will love this one. In my opinion, it's vastly superior. And how can you not love a book narrated by a dog?
I read this on the plane to Ireland and at several points, I was full-on crying. You'd have to have a heart of stone to not be affected by this one. Read it. ...more

I had to create a new bookshelf for this one. It's one of the best books I've ever read. It may sound silly to some to try to think from the mind of dog, but believe me this book is anything but silly and Enzo runs circles around, (sometimes literally!), other animal-genre books! You will enjoy this one a lot.

I absolutely loved this book. I won't say it is perfect, but it was lovely. The story is about a dog, who wants to be human, going over his life with his owner - a racecar driver - on the last day of his life. It's spiritual and lovely. It may not be so high-brow, but we all need something like this book now and then.

In the first chapter of this book I knew I was going to cry, and perhaps that's why I didn't exactly look forward to picking it up. It's the story of an aspiring race car driver, told through the eyes of his dog. It's heartwarming at times, but I found the deviations about race car history, and tv the dog watch a bit bumpy.

What a great book! The family dog tells the story as he sees it. Enzo is thoughtful, conscientious, and ambitious. The story touched me--I was furious with the Twins (horrible, evil people), delighted with Zoe, and enamored of the racing world. This is not a book about a typical dog, but dog lovers should read this book.

An absolute must read!
I love that it is from the perspective of a dog. The whole time I read this book my dog was laying beside me and I couldn't help but wonder if she is thinking the thoughts like the dog in the book. From start to finish I loved everything about this book. ...more
