I just love cozy mysteries and I must admit that I grew up watching (and loving) the television show Murder, She Wrote. So it's a (guilty) pleasure for me to read one of these books.

I think I've read another book in this series, but it was prior to my Goodreads logs, and I can't remember which one. I haven't borrowed any from the library (yet), but if I find one in a paperback exchange, I am sure to pick it up. Perhaps someday I will go back and read the whole series, but I think reading this s I just love cozy mysteries and I must admit that I grew up watching (and loving) the television show Murder, She Wrote. Having grown up in Massachusetts, I love the references to New England in this series. And while the setting for this story takes place mostly in London, England, the New England personalities and sensibilities are still quite apparent.

I loved the descriptions of the hotels, pubs and sights to see in London (the Savoy Hotel, the Grenadier pub, the Strand, the River Restaurant, the Athenaeum Hotel and Bullochs Restaurant, the Dickens Museum, etc.) I've spent many months in England, but I rarely visit London. I would like to check these places out one day.

I wasn't sure why I picked up this book in particular to read right now, but I've found that I have so many odd coincidences in my reading choices. It just so happens that I also started reading the latest Magic Tree House book, which was a Christmas present for our girls.

And the subject of that story was Charles Dickens, with the title, A Ghost Tale for Christmas Time. I thought it was fascinating that this mystery paid homage to this great author, with about two pages dedicated to describing a museum about him at one of his residences on Doughty Street.

Overall, it was a quick, fun read. The ending seemed to disappoint me, but I don't know if it was just a bit too melodramatic for my taste or if I just hoped to read more. I'm sure I will read more of the mysteries in this series in the near future.
