This is the first book in the Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede. Our oldest has been on a bit of a 'dragon' kick lately, so she was excited when she came across this book at our local library.

We both read the book independently and discussed it after I finally finished it. The story was engaging and exciting and our oldest loves that Cimorene is a spunky, intelligent and adventurous young woman who is more of a hero than the princes and knights she encounters.

Cimorene has a problem, she's a princess who hates everything that a princess is expected to do. Instead of etiquette she studies Latin, instead of needlework she does fencing. All goes well until her parents decide its time for her to marry, and determined to avoid this fate she volunteers herself up to become a Dragon's princess.
