It's seriously one of the best. To Kill A Mockingbird oldie, but a goodie. Gorgeously written, Harper Lee can pen a story like no other. She takes something with a simple story and turns it into a masterpiece. Without a doubt my favourite English Book A unique & original read, unlike anything I've ever read. have to read in English class) . It took a while to read but I loved it. It's hard to believe this was published 55 years ago as a lot of the events feel like they can happen in today's society as well. This book gives me a mixture of emotions, it's a unique blend of pure awesomeness. The film was very true to the book and brought it to life. It just wouldn't be the same if it wasn't set in a world of black and white.Its so cleverly written it's the odd book that's written differently but instantly loveable. It deals with subjects like racism,prejudice and how we underestimate people. It opens your eyes to what human nature is like. “Atticus said to Jem one day, "I’d rather you shot at tin cans in the backyard, but I know you’ll go after birds. Shoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit ‘em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird." That was the only time I ever heard Atticus say it was a sin to do something, and I asked Miss Maudie about it. "Your father’s right," she said. "Mockingbirds don’t do one thing except make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corn cribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”- Scout ( Jean Louise) Finch. To kill a Mockingbird is to kill innocence, a sin which many of us might not realise is. The book is a thought provoker every time you close that book, especially at the end. It taught me many things, its full of hidden things. Like did you notice that all the main characters last names are the name of a type of bird? Have you considered why the title is what it is? Man Miss Lee is a genius and just like anything Dickens, Shakespeare, Bronte and Austen etc, this book will be read for many generations and centuries to come. Including by me. There will never be a book like it and if there is it won't be as good. That's a promise. I’m so conflicted about this book because I know for a fact that the first hundred pages were SO BORING I had to force myself to keep reading and after that it sorta picked up and I was able to appreciate what made this book so distinctive on one hand a story about a lawyer defending a black man in that time period is truly exceptional and the way this particular case unfolded was a roller coaster of emotions and on the other hand the ambiance of growing up in a tight community was really enthra ...more

I have been meaning to read this book for years, and I am so glad I finally did. It is such a great book, and Harper Lee is a phenomenal writer. It also actually really helped me get a better picture of what life was like for people in small southern towns during the 30's. I really don't know what else to say other than this is a must read classic. ...more
