If it were possible for a single book to teach writers everything they needed to know in order for them to create a truly "riveting" novel, I reckon we'd all be churning out best sellers. I started reading this book with that somewhat jaded preconception safely tucked into my back pocket, but I was also hoping against hope to find some real insight into the neuropsychology of story resonance. I realized in the first couple of chapters that there are techniques in this book that I've been using unconsciously for years. But for the most part I found Story Genius to be very repetitive and could barely finish it.

I love the concept of a blueprint but this is way too wordy for me to read right now. Probably great for new writers but veteran writers need to be in just the right mental place to read this. I will revisit it at another time. Got 61% through. No rating at this time.
