So good! Kept me up way too late because I had to see how it ended!
Kate and Rhys are intriguing characters. They both have serious issues in their past that are causing them difficulties in their present. I enjoyed watching them figure out their own issues and figure out how to help each other as they decided what to do with the powerful chemistry zinging between them. A great read!

This is a solid 4-star read for me. Before I explain why I enjoyed it, let me briefly state why I didn't give it a higher rating.

What I'm beginning to see as a running theme in this series are problematic leading ladies. These main characters, these Maguire women, with all their brains, beauty, and charm, have the fatal flaw of being prone to damsel disease. They put themselves into the best positions to have their lives threatened at any moment. At least in this book, Kate, kind of had the exc This is a solid 4-star read for me. They put themselves into the best positions to have their lives threatened at any moment. At least in this book, Kate, kind of had the excuse of PTSD to explain some of her choices. Still, there were times when she did non-life-threatening things that were emotionally damaging that made me very disappointed in her. Oddly enough, though, I liked her right from the start. Perhaps it was because I met her in the first book; Maggie didn't have that luxury in the first book. Still, as much as I liked Kate, she annoyed me at times, and I liked that. It made her seem more real.

The only other thing that kept me from giving this a higher rating was the over-the-top, god-like leading man. I'm not complaining about the wonderful visuals this character created in my mind, but he was just too perfect. Even with his crazily tragic (per genre standard) background, this guy was just too perfect. The perfect best friend, the perfect physique, injured and yet strong enough to recover early with hard work and determination, the perfect lover, the perfect bank account...

Even though these are the two reasons I didn't give the book a higher rating, they are also part of the reason I enjoyed the book. I like these two characters and I liked seeing them come together. I also love going back to Maguire's Corner and immersing myself more into this family and the town. The town is my second favorite character in the book. Still a big fan of Jack and was happy to see him doing his job again.

The steam level is pretty consistent with the first book and another staple of the series. While all very tasteful, I'm recommending this to adult readers only.
