I feel like I've been a tad generous by giving this book three stars, especially since I didn't actually enjoy it much. But, since I enjoyed a sense of triumph at the end on discovering that I'd correctly guessed who the traitor friend would be, I'm in a more generous mood than usual. I expected so much more from this book after all the hype surrounding it. dISAPPOINTED, ESPECIALLY AFTER ALL THE HYPE SURROUNDING THESE BOOKS. I'm sorry to say I've done someting I almost never do ; didn't finish the book. I was very disappointed as I thought here's a series of books I can enjoy - not so! This book completely failed to grip me and I gave up. Bears no comparison to authors like Rowling or Pullman, they are several leagues above this rubbish!

I was expecting a lot out of this book after all the hype and I was disappointed. It's an entertaining read and the Greek Mythology angle and background was very interesting. It's possibly a tad too far-fetched and the author could have toned down a few things. Sadly, it reads as an inferior Harry Potter.
