Hemingway unfortunately killed himself before he could edit and kill his darlings in this much too draft like last novel of Hemingway's. there are parts of this work that are so beautiful and sad and human it made me cry, but predominately the ramblings of a man with cats and many houses just a) surely would have been edited out by the Old One turning this into a pearl of a book about age, loneliness, love & sorrow and b) made me seasick on account of all the pointless boat rides here and there

Like all the other reviews said, the first part is amazing and could have been its own story. I didn't enjoy the second part as much, but it serves to introduce some characters and show how Thomas Hudson has aged with his grief. The third part really had me on the edge of my seat. The logic and methods Thomas Hudson uses to track down the Germans seems very true to life, and the suspense kept me flipping pages.
