One of my favourite books - a dark story of honour killing told in beautifully poetic language.

A wonderful book full of imagery that pulsates and descriptions that seem both magical and apt. The characters, composed of weaknesses and undercurrents of misrepresentation and need, still deserve our sympathy because Aslam's prose draws us a picture of why they do what they do. Islam, love, honor, love, and so on are the driving forces that propel the action, yet Aslam resets the characters' motives with unflinching details about their own self-deception while trying to be the best people they
