I have seen a lot of criticism for the cover and it is pretty bad. Mad Rogan is not the character who walks around without a shirt -- that would be attention-seeking Adam Pierce. And Nevada is mostly described as wearing sensible clothes, including tennis shoes on several occasions, because of her profession and, I believe, because of her monetary situation. So I tried fighting this book. I went in expecting romance novel plot beats and boy, does it not have those. However, this is a great book. It really speaks to the authors' skill how interesting this world is and how gripping the action is on top of the growing sexual/romantic tension and just the family relationships. These authors just plain deliver. I already want to re-read it because I snarfed it down in a couple hours. This is the first book in a series--there's not exactly a cliffhanger, but the story is definitely not complete.

So, this was fun and surprisingly hot for such a slow burn romance. The thing that struck me the most, though, is that it sidesteps so many of the squicky aspects of a super-wealthy, super-powerful hero and an less-so heroine. Nevada knows who she is and what she works for and there isn't any of that breathless, oh-let-me-help-you-little-one attitude that so many books with this sort of pairing fall into.
