CLIFF-HANGER, BLAST IT!

Honestly!

Okay, awesome book; definitely in the same league as Hunger Games, with lots of action, lots of tension, lots of think-y stuff (regarding our celebrity focused society and the wealth gap between the rich and the poor) and like any good sequel it broadens the story-world, expands the scope of the message... but THE ENDING. A big, hulking 'To Be Continued'. A year? Really?

Another reread of another banger. Katniss really gets developed in this book, which focuses on relationships a lot more. With so much potential for More of the Sameness and Second Book Syndrome, I think this really stood out.

I read The Hunger Games a little while ago. But it wasn’t until Christmas that I picked up Catching Fire. I don’t know if it was because my Christmas wasn’t so great, but I was without internet, so I decided to read. I wasn’t disappointed. The whole book was a ride and I finished it in a day. For Katniss and the other victors to have to go into the Games again was just terrible. I also noticed that there were little signs of rebellion. What with the mockingjay symbol and all. At the end of the b ...more

I completely agree with the review my crazy Dutch friend, Marlene, wrote. So much time was spent on discussing life after the 74th Hunger Games, and not enough was spent on the 75th. Everyone pretty much could guess that Katniss had to return to the arena in some shape or form. It just took over half the book to get to that point. My other friend, Roberto, did warn me that this was the worst of the trilogy, so maybe Mockingjay will be able to attain more stars from me.

I found it difficult not I

It was okay. I didn't think it was as interesting as the first book and the premise seemed contrived. It feels like the middle book of a trilogy (which it is). There didn't seem to be enough new things here to distinguish it from the first book. ...more

a great follow-up to the first book: more intense and delving more deeply into the issues at hand (a not-so-subtle metaphor relating to terrorism and global economics), perfectly taking things to the next level. There were a few minor inconsistencies, and the protagonist, Katniss didn't seem quite as likable this time around, but still a very compelling read.

will definitely be picking up the third installment.
