Why Leave the Labyrinth?

After reading the book I wonder why he would leave? Not going to spoil the plot in the review but if you secured a base - why leave for the unknown? (Beside quests which can’t be more rewarding then your life) The MC’s stupid decision making soured an otherwise good book for me.
