I heard a lot of people talk about how this wasn’t a great book and it was kind of a rip-off of Tolkien. My family chose this as a read aloud and we loved it, admiringly I was the last to be swept up in it. There are a lot of parallels to Tolkien, but I have been around young kids who get paralyzed trying to come up with the original idea to write about and I used this as an example.
