Wow. I adore the TV show True Blood but somehow, never got around to reading this.
What was I waiting for?!
Devoured it in three days. Housework? Kids? what are those and who cares?! I just could not put this one down. It is different enough from the TV show that I didn't feel as though anything was spoiled. Sookie, as a character, is much funnier in print than on the small screen. I just love her internal dialogue, and her relationship with Bill is sweet and scary and breathtakingly hot without b ...more

I picked this book because I have heard it mentioned so many times in almost all the paranormal groups I’ve been a part of. Furthermore, after the release of the HBO True Blood series, the talk got more incessant, that I finally have to satisfy my curiosity and pick the book.
I actually ended with an audio book, pleasantly narrated by Johanna Parker, I was immediately captivated by the chatter of Sookie’s mind. A bar waitress with a psychic “disability” of reading other people’s thoughts, she was ...more

I picked up the Sookie Stackhouse books to see if I wanted to watch the TV Show...True Blood that is based on them and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.
These will never bring the author Charlaine Harrie any major writing award - but they do what books have done since the invention of the printing press...they entertain.
Southern Belle (who happens to be a mind reader) works as a cocktail waitress in a bar owned by a Were-animal in a small rural area where Vamp and Weres are coming out of ...more

This was a fun read.. but before i really get into this, some comments/questions/observations:
1 - Synthetic blood ?
2 - There is AIDS for the Vampires???!!
3 - I really like the way we accepted the poor grandmom's death and promptly proceeded to have sex
4 - there was something else but i just can't remember what.
I guess the rest is ok, but, the grief sex ? i mean, she's never had sex before and suddenly she's having grief sex?
well, ok . i guess i was expecting a lot from this book if I'm question ...more

Do not judge this book by my rating. If you read all updates you will have a feel for what I think. To recap, I watched "True Blood" first which spoiled the enjoyment of the story. I wished I would have read the series first. By reading first I'm sure my rating would be different. There were a few differences I noticed. This is where I wished the TV version was different. I will read the others, but not at this moment.

It's the story about the "gifted" waitress Sookie that befriends a Vampire, in a world where vampires are acknowledged legally and are living among humans trying to "mainstream" that is to blend in with them.
She encounters some adventures, some deaths and a lot of fun..
It was a fast fun read that put a smile on my face, well actually made me grin like an idiot in a room fun of people.. I loved it and will be continuing the series as soon as I can. ...more
