An excellent, fictional take on William Shakespeare, his wife Anne and his children. The writing is beautiful and the story is very engaging. Hamnet also means Hamlet, and the book imagines how Shakespeare's own son contributed to the story behind one of his most famous plays.

This brilliant book is the story of Hamnet--Shakespeare's ill-fated son (he was the twin of Judith). We don't actually know how Hamnet died. Or that Shakespeare's writing of Hamlet had anything to do with his son's early demise (Hamnet and Hamlet as names were used interchangeably). That didn't stop the author from creating the story of Hamnet--as his parents meet (William S. is never actually named here) and marry.
