This book is very interesting and provides an excellent view into what life was like for women during those times.
In The Red Tent, Anita Diamant writes the story of Genesis' Jacob and his family from the point of view of his only daughter, Dinah. While the menstrual tent does play a significant role in the book, the whole book is not centered on menstruation. The novel follows the founding family of Israel from Jacob's flight to the home of his uncle Laban, through Jacob's marriages to his four wives and the births of his children, and through Jacob's journey back to the land of his birth. I really enjoyed this story and got caught up in it. It has been a while since I read about Jacob in the Bible let alone spend time in the Old Testament. The writing flowed so well and the story seemed so real that I started to confuse certain parts so I went back and re-read that part of the Bible last night. Although fiction {reminding myself}, this book gives an interesting perspective of the intricate lives of women during biblical times.
Loved the book... The novel takes one behind the closed doors of the women in Biblical times. Traditions of ancient womanhood.
