In the third instalment of the series, real life becomes a bit too dangerous for Thursday, so she goes into hiding in the book world. And not just any part of the book world, but the Well of Lost Plots, where unpublished novels languish. Here, while the pernicious Aornis Hades tries to erase her memories, Thursday continues her training to become a Jurisfiction agent. Spoiler Alert: Do not read if planning on reading Anna Karenina.

Fforde is an author who I greatly respect in the bookish minutia of details he jams into every page. Unfortunately, I find his story arc and lack of any real plot increasingly tedious. We meet a multitude of well-known characters as they travel amongst the books to solve literary problems, as well as facing up a couple of villains (one a mystery) and several nail-biting scenarios which could spell the end of Thursday's past, and the future of Bookworld itself. Three, because unlike the previous books, I found this one slightly too heavy on the world building at the expense of plot.

I still found it very, very enjoyable.

Fforde's a master of wordplay and extremely well read. The puns and literary references are only a part of what makes this series so enjoyable though. I love the story, the suspense, and the characters as well.
