This books takes me back to a time when magic carpets, Aladdin and Arabian Nights were full of mystic for me.. before I knew about women in other cultures and acquired the bad taste of 9/11. The Brazilian mathematician who wrote this book is a great storyteller. The admiration of wise, learned people in the 1200's gives the author a means to use an accomplished scholar as a hero just like we use the pro athletes in our society today.
