Camus description of his surroundings, the landscapes the towns, and people are great. You can smell the ocean, feel the breeze, and squint when the sun is in your eyes. A strange but captivating tale that is a good start for understanding Camus and his philosophy. Mersault, like many of Camus characters embodies some of himself, his love of the ocean, his relationships with women, and his interest in football (soccer).

If this book wasn't on your high school or college reading list then go out and buy it immediately! In Hemingwayesque fashion, Camus gives us a hero who feels absolutely nothing. After murdering an arab.... well I won't ruint it for you. A really powerful ending - this book is even better if you read it along with Camus's the Myth of Sisyphus.
