This is a charming, gentle read about a housekeeper and her son caring for a mathematics teacher who has been in an accident, and can only remember the last 80 minutes of his life since 1975, when the accident occurred. The professor talks constantly about math and curiosities about certain numbers, particularly primes, and they start solving math puzzles and questions that he sets to them, growing to love math themselves. Yoko Ogawas novel "The Housekeeper + The Professor" tells the story of a woman coming to care for an elderly mathematics professor suffering from short-term memory loss.

While she has to introduce herself again every morning, she soons forms an attachment, based on him teaching her about numbers and her seeing his brilliance.
When she mentions her son, the Professor's love for children shines through and he expects her to bring him around after school or during vacations.
