okay, but so true for this series!! Every single book in this series is another chapter in Sophie's Elvin, magical, complicated, amazing life that all of the keeper fandoms reads and cherishes. okay, but so true for this series!! Every single book in this series is another chapter in Sophie's Elvin, magical, complicated, amazing life that all of the keeper fandoms reads and cherishes. Sophie's character arc is different from a lot of different characters that I've read, the setting is super unique and totally helps the story (especially in book 4!), and there are so many unique elements in the book. It is unique (ha!- I'm using that word too muuuuuucccccchhhhh)!!!!!
This book is different from the other books in many ways. For one,KEEFE IS WITH THE NEVERSEEN!!! *cries about my feelings before I read the book* I mean, who knew our favorite prankaholic could do something SO EVIL?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?! (view spoiler) *spoiler ahead.... If you have read like, 20 pages though (of this book), it's not that big, and honestly, not major anyways*

this book also ramps up on the action in the series. There's the more complex defense going on, and Sophie is starting to understand what it really means to have rebels in the lost cities. I mean, Keefe is one of them for a while, sooooooo.........🤷🤷🤷🤷🤷 (view spoiler)
this book has it all. Action. Romance. Mystery. Fantasy. Even some history... So if you're looking for a good read during quarantine, then go check this book out!!!!

not that i didn’t really enjoy it, but this is probably one of my least favorites of the series so far. the last 150 pages felt very rushed to me, and that sucks because they had the most interesting and suspenseful scenes, but they felt a little too sloppy and faced paced for me to follow some of it well. I’d have to reread many parts of them a couple of times so i could really visualize what was going on. And it especially made it hard for me to follow it emotionally, because it all ju (reread)

And it especially made it hard for me to follow it emotionally, because it all just happened so fast. the writing in general for this one felt a little sloppier than the others. but before those last 150 pages i thought this one was really really great. i love following sophie and her friends. however many times it’s been done, a group of kids being best friends and saving the world and outsmarting all the adults is always my favorite thing to read or watch. seeing them all come together since the end of everblaze and becoming a team is probably the most enjoyable part of this series.

one character i want to talk about is Alden, who was such an important and developed character in books 1-3 but in 4-5 took a back seat and just fell a bit flat as a whole. I do understand that he wasn’t that important for the plot development in these two installments, but i find it unlikely that he would’ve become this much of a side character. previously, he was always the first person sophie reached out to and went to for advice. he was a very active character in the plot, always invested in whatever mystery was being solved or whatever plan/adventure that was taking shape. i understand this role has been filled by mr. forkle, which makes sense since sophie is now in the black swan, and he is the person who would be the most helpful for her to reach out to when she’s in need, and it makes sense that he’d be more involved in the plot then alden, since he’s a leader of the black swan and alden is not even in the black swan. honestly, it doesn’t bother me that much that alden’s taking more of a backseat, because the plot of the past two books don’t leave a lot of room for alden to be that important, which is fine, what’s bothering me is that his transition to the background seems just a little too abrupt and the few times he does appear in the story, he doesn’t really have the interesting dialogue and opinions you’d expect alden to have, and these reasons lead to him coming off as just a flat background character in this book. i guess that was sort of a lengthy way of saying i miss alden. he’s a fantastic character and his presence really just adds a lot to the plot. i think the series needs to be wary of how many characters are building up, because there are definitely a lot now, and i don’t want it to feel stretched too thin trying to cover too many character’s storylines, because i feel like it bordered on that a bit during Lodestar. ...more

Keeper of the Lost Cities is my favorite series of all time! One of my favorite things in the book was the telepathic conversations between Sophie and Keefe. Some of them went a couple pages in length at a time, and it helped to seal the gaps made by Keefe not being there. I am so upset about the character that died!!!
