This is one of my favorites, and I just re-read it as I'm in France and we started listening to it on a family road trip to Brittany, where we visited the Ile de Ré, where the siege of Rochelle happens in the book.
And I have to say, Mon dieu! It remains just as good as I remembered! I love the over brashness of the young garcon, D'Argtagnan, and the richness of the backgrounds of each of the four musketeers.

This is the story of Milady even more than the story of D’Artagnan, Athos, Porthos and Aramis although these four men are what we usually remember when we think and talk about this book. It’s probably one of the most well-known stories in Western literature and Milady is such an accomplished villain. Even though the Cardinal Richelieu might seem like the real bad guy of the novel, when you read it, there’s really no doubt - even he is scared of Milady.
