The Mortal Instruments is one of the most dangerous series in YA literature and I'll tell you why. If you start a book, you'll have to finish it - and the latest installment is no exception. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. Finally, finally, after a couple of years of waiting I finally got a sequel to one of my favourite series! First off, I have to say that this was definetely not your typical (if you can call it that) MI book. This was a much, much, much darker version of the story, more reminding me of Clockwork Angel than of City of Glass.
There was a lot more focusing on Simon than on Jace and Clary, though they were there, all right. His story was kinda weird, really. He's the Daylighter, now bearing the mark Finally, finally, after a couple of years of waiting I finally got a sequel to one of my favourite series! First off, I have to say that this was definetely not your typical (if you can call it that) MI book. This was a much, much, much darker version of the story, more reminding me of Clockwork Angel than of City of Glass.
There was a lot more focusing on Simon than on Jace and Clary, though they were there, all right. His story was kinda weird, really. He's the Daylighter, now bearing the mark of Cain, which is your super-duper protecting spell, basicly, that turns anyone who tries to harm him in any way into salt. Literally. I don't think he'll be low on sodium soon. But someone is trying to kill him, not successfully obviously, so he ends up with a personal bodyguards - Jace, surprisingly, and Jordan Kyle, a werewolf, who turns out to be Maya's ex who turned her on his first full moon, and is still in love with her. I really liked Jordan actually and think that for sure he and Maya will end up together in the end, although right now she doesn't seem to be up to it. And speaking of Maya, she and Izzy didn't know about each other dating Simon, which was absolutely hilarious. It wasn't so funny when they found out, at least not for Simon, who got shunned from both of them. Maya wasn't so much present in this book as the ones before but here she played the cheated on girlfriend who suddenly finds hersefl face to face with the love of her life who broke her heart. I simpatize with her and really like her for not giving Jordan such a hard time after she found out the reasons for his behaviour before. The person who grew up pretty fast now was Izzy. We found out a lot about why she acts the way she does and it's deep, which you wouldn've expected from her. I've always liked her but now even more than before after I learned that she got an early lesson in Life earlier than she'd been meant to. She really saw Simon for the first time as something different than another species to date that would annoy her parents. And she wears killer heels.
Back to Simon. In this book the accent was on him realizing what being an actual vampire means. On topics like immortality, mortality and loneliness which he hadn't really considered before. Magnus' words had the biggest impact on him - "In the future it's going to be only you and me. Everyone else will be dead." And it's the hard and painful truth.
I didn't like Alec's appearance in the book. He only came in at the end of it and acted like a jealous spoiled brat. He acted like Magnus had lied to him whereas it's beyond reasonable that Magnus has had lovers before - he lives forever, dammit. What I really liked was his asking the question "Who's Will?" I'd like to know that, too. Or rather, what was his realtionship with Magnus and what did he want with Magnus at the end of Clockwork Angel. :D I'll die 'till Clockwork Prince is released.
I've been circuling the topic but my biggest concern were Jace and Clary. I didn't find many faults in her, really. But with Jace...You see, I was just explaining somewhere that Jace is so much more different that Will because Jace is good, and we know he's good, and we're always sure that he does what he does with a reason, usually a really good one. But HE does it. Now, he started acting weird - I mean, finally he and Clary are together and nothing is stopping them and he starts having these weird bloody dreams and starts pulling away from her, fearing that he'll hurt her which is basicly absurd. Until he does. But it's not by his volution. He's being controlled by a powerful demon - because when Clary brought him back from the dead his protections were stripped from him and he became vulnerable. So there you have it. What I was shocked to learn - and how it all ended - was that this demon was none other but Lilith, the first ever woman. I mean, come on, to make her into salt just because Simon has vampiric speed and made her harm him - that was just...a little too much. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Another revelation - she was the demon that gave her blood to Valentine to make Sebastian/Jonathan i.e. she's said Jonathan's mother and now she wants to bring him back from the dead (she has the right since an angel brought Jace back - good gets a chance, bad gets a chance) so that she can create an entire new race. That's what I meant when I said this was a lot darker than the previous books - bringing back the dead, dealing with all demon's mother..and Jace being bad. Not being himself. This was the most frightening thing of all - that the most powerful Shadowhunter right now can be so controlled. It was just insane. It's worse than with Will.
And the finale - it just depressed me. Sebastian is back - and he's powerful. And guess who brought him back - that's right, Jace did. Not voluntarily, no, but now Sebastian controls him and that's just...unbelievable. I don't think he'll be excused so lightly this time. He can't prove what happened and the results are what matter. I knew things couldn't end with a happy ending but this....
I don't know if I should feel angry or sad or something else from this finale. Guess I'll judge the story at the next book.
I have to say, this is not my favourite MI book. Hope things get better at the next one. Still giving it 5 stars since it got my heart pounding and my pulce quickening, and re-introduced me to my favourite characters and the developments of their stories. And I definetely couldn've guessed the ending which is always a plus - I hate it when I know what's going to happen in the end from the beginning without having read spoilers.

I exepted more. The half of the book was mostly about Simon. There was too little Jace and Clary. I expected to see how happy are they together, and instead there was more pain, just like in the second book when they thought they were brother and sister.
In the end there is still no answer are they going to be together, is the love really enough. And of course i can`t wait to see what will happen with them (view spoiler) ...more

Дори няма нужда да се замислям дали ще прочета останалите две. Или четири? Кой знае дали Клер и издателите й няма да приключат с шеста и да решат, че могат да изкарат още пари.
