I found the 8th book in the Ruth Galloway series first, and decided to read the entire series in reverse order because the synopses of earlier titles didn't appeal to me as much. Well, by the time I got to The Crossing Places, first in the series, I had fallen in love with Ruth, Nelson, Cathbad, et al. The third person present tense writing irritates me a bit, but ultimately did not prevent me from enjoying the series. And one of the later scenes in The Crossing Places -- Cathbad leading Nelson
