review of another edition
I had a great deal of fun writing this, adapting this from its Mandarin original that had too many characters and far too many scenes, trying to add transitions and to balance authenticity against what a modern English speaking audience would grasp. The hardest part was trying to find an emotional connection. (The scene is China--remember "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"? The love scenes between the princess and the leader of the nomads were entirely gratuitous and irrelevant to the story.) So I
