I enjoyed this biker romance, the author does a great job of creating a very full, detailed world with many fleshed out characters. I plan on reading the rest of the books in the series as I enjoyed the story and and the author's writing style.

The book lost a star for a couple reasons. The book was LONG. I am glad for a nice fleshed out story but some of the descriptions and details were a bit unnecessary. There were also a ton of flashbacks, I felt like they took up half the story. The last iss ...more

I am pretty tossed on how to rate this. On one hand, I feel I am in the minority here because most of the reviews I generally use as my yardstick, rated this very high. And while I can comprehend their rating validity, I cannot say I wholly agree. For me this was rather like a promising quilt that had amazing patches but was sewn together poorly. The writing was very good and the story impactful, but I just felt a disconnect throughout the book. There were all these chunks of intimate details of I am pretty tossed on how to rate this. There were all these chunks of intimate details of thoughts and emotions for all the characters POVs but they were just spewed out there and just didn't mesh into the next thought or scene or situation. I also was a tad uncomfortable with Mercy and Ava's love affair. I am as open minded as they come, or at least I thought I was, when it comes to relationships, but given the history and description of their early relationship, there were several times when I admittedly cringed at their transmogrify. In some instances, the wording creating a blurred line that edged perversity. The two roles Mercy held for Ava, are too antithetical for me to identify with and I fought with it. A lot. I fought with my opinion of Ava too, especially in the beginning when she first returned home. I can’t say I liked her much to be honest. I also fought with the first 20 chapters. It was very slow going to me. Again patchwork. Bouncing from the past, the present, and then back and all the multiple POVs. It took a lot of patience, and spurred-on curiosity from the raving reviews I read to push me deeper into the story.

The flip side, the book held my interest for the majority. The hook was a very subtle slide, but I eventually got vested. Some parts were like a sudden drop at Space Mountain. The storyline takes on these adrenaline plunges. One minute relaxed mundane daily town events and then bam - pages are flying with windswept action my eyes ached because I couldn’t stop to even blink. And when the dust settles, I was all “holy crap!” and I can see where the reviews make sense. Mercy was an interesting character, as referenced, the Byronic Hero. His personality shifted like sand and I want to believe that was more intentional, being such a mix of emotions and background and so unsettled in the world. May be my way of rationalizing his relationship with Ava. Who did managed to redeemed herself in the last quarter. I haven’t decided to push forward with the series. Still waiting for my mental dust to settle and my final opinion to surface. Which arguably, says a lot for the book in itself, right? ...more

A truly entertaining read, but a loooooong one. I didn't mind at all because it kept me engaged. I'm not keen on flashbacks becuase there's always a sense of dread building at the point they're going to seperate the first time. You know it's happened because.... flashbacks! Still something in me just wants to swerve around that dreaded moment when I get invested in the mc's. ...more
