Really, really good. Fans of historical romances will love this one. This author can write. It is also a very steamy, passionate read too. (She writes love scenes how I like them -- filled with passion, humor, buring heat but NOT full of body part descriptions and sex for the sake of sex. The scenes are very meaningful to the romance and the progression of the story.)

(Reread December 2015)
4 stars
: still a great book, but WHAT is up with that ending?! So, SO abrupt. Forget wanting an Epilogue - I want an ending!! Because that so didn't feel like one. Lowering rating to 4 stars for that alone, because another 3 or 4 chapters were needed, frankly. Disappointing, since I remember how much I loved the book and so my expectations were super high. Guess I blocked out how much I hated the (LACK OF AN) ending.

This book has been on my TBR for almost two years - every time I put it in a challenge, I ended up switching to something else, but this time I was determined. That may be why it took me so long to settle into the story, or maybe it took a while for the story to engage me - that happened about midway and is why this is not 4*, altho it is a strong 3*.

Wow! I couldn't put this book down. It suprised me a few times with it's twists and turns, but that was one of the reasons I loved it! Especially the final scene where they parted in bad terms for the first time: I didn't see that coming!
Finally a book where I really loved both characters. The last few books I've read haven't been that case.
Good book. I look forward to reading more from this author. ...more

A wonderfully enjoyable book with a multifaceted heroine, who raises from the ashes of her disastrous first marriage to come into her own. She is insecure, mistrustful, yet a risk taker, single minded and fiercely protective of her battered heart. Even though it has the usual regency elements - rakes, carriages, country estates, London homes, ices at Gunters, it seemed more real. There was a myriad details that brought the setting to life more vividly than the norm, like commenting that some att
