I loved the premise of this book because it reminded me a little of two of my favorite RS books, To the Brink by Cindy Gerard, and Wild Card by Lora Leigh--two stories about second chances. Although this book was good, and is a good start to what looks to be an exciting series, it just quite didn't make it to great. Something was missing for me--and I think it had something to do with the relationship between the H/h.

Pretty good. A bit of an emotional roller coaster but well worth reading. Ethan, the hero, is a tortured soul who believed his wife to be dead and suddenly he receives information that she may be alive. Alpha protector mode clicks on and so the story goes. I am looking forward to the future additions to this series.

I had really high hopes for The Darkest Hour as I hadn't read a novel like this before about second chances, a husband rescuing the love of his life and the husband thinking the love of his life was dead and they're not, was something I was excited to read and something new for me.

The Darkest Hour starts with Ethan, who on the first anniversary of his wife's death, is overwhelmed by grief and guilt over his failures as a husband, shuts himself off from everything and everyone.

The Darkest Hour starts with Ethan, who on the first anniversary of his wife's death, is overwhelmed by grief and guilt over his failures as a husband, shuts himself off from everything and everyone.

Ethan is ex-Navy SEAL, his oldest three brothers (Sam, Garrett, and Donovan) have served there time in the military and his youngest two brothers (Joe and Nathan) are currently in the army.

Ethan's three oldest brothers have formed a security business called KGI they've been trying to bring Ethan into the KGI fold, but Ethan's been resisting them. Until he receives a package with a note claiming his 'wife is still alive'. To save her, Ethan and his brothers will have to dodge bullets, cross a jungle, and risk falling captive to a deadly drug cartel that threatens his own demise. And even if he succeeds, he’ll have to force Rachel to recover memories she can’t and doesn’t want to relive.

At the start of The Darkest Hour I didn't like Ethan, I can't really pinpoint why but his character just didn't appeal to me in the way I expected it to. The start of the story was really great, I was prepared to be going back and forth between Ethan and Rachel but it wasn't like that at all. It's all about Ethan until he and his brothers go into the jungle to rescue Rachel. Then it's the mix that you expect. Eventually I started to like Ethan more but I just didn't feel a real connection between Rachel and Ethan. I really wanted to but I just couldn't see them being a couple without some past information been given. You don't find out how Rachel and Ethan got together but you find out that Ethan's youngest brother, Joe had asked Rachel out and she'd turned him down.

Favourite Quote: "It felt so normal and old fogie, the kind of kiss couples share after being together so long. He loved that sensation of comfort with her even if they hadn't hurdled all their obstacles yet. They were getting there and that was the important part."

But apart from that I did really enjoyed The Darkest Hour, the overall storyline was really great. The relationship between the six brothers was really interesting and something I could imagine being real. I thoroughly enjoyed the Kelly mother, Marlene and how she seemed to keep taking in 'strays'. First there's Rachel and Sean (the sherriff) and in The Darkest Hour you see Marlene take in a young girl called Rusty, the only brother that seems to be on Rusty's side is Nathen and I thought it was really sweet.

There seem to be alot of character's in the KGI series and I'm wondering how many books will be in the series and if there will be a spin-off series featuring some of the guys from KGI's two teams, i.e Rio and Steele are the main two who come to mind right now.

I'm really interesting in reading the next book No Place to Run, which is out in December! For the first book in a new series I was really happy with how it has started and I'm interested in how the series will progress and I still have high hopes for the other books still to come. ...more

A great debut for the KGI series. Story built around a family that includes six hunky brothers, a hunky cousin and lots more hunks, too (along with some strong witty and interesting females)!! Sizzling romance and a thrilling suspense storyline written well and enjoyed immensely. Can't wait for the next book in December! ...more
