Wow. I haven't read a book with so much wasted potential, such horrible writing, and just... so bad in quite a long time.
This should have been great. Two Europeans with very different backgrounds trying to adjust to life in Fiji in the 19th century. The writing absolutely slaughtered any chance and I should have put it down as soon as I realized it was written on a 5th grade level. Not 5th grade level subject matter, mind you - there's plenty of adult level violence and sex. It's just written fo ...more
