This book was disappoint to me. I've read a couple of other books written by Foster that were adapted from movies (it has been awhile so maybe I'm wrong) like Alien and The Thing, but this one felt like it was the movie script almost word for word. There were really only two scenes that I weren't in the movie, and both were very minor (even if the Chewbacca scene was awesome). If you have read some of the newer Star Wars books out there like Bloodline (also not recommended), there will be a few ...more

As a novelization of the film, it is very true to the movie. There are some tidbits here and there that provide a bit more detail on the thoughts of various characters. If you have already seen and enjoyed TFA, it may not add a whole lot more to your experience. As for the writing itself, in the quest to make it "his" book, Foster got a bit too excited with throwing in adjectives all over the place. Whilst not perfect as it was driven off of the screenplay, it does fill in some holes and adds some depth. I wonder how much things would be different if the book came 1st & the film adaptation came later. Just my gut feeling I think both would have ended up much better.

And so begins my venture in (new) Canon.

Goodbye, Mara Jade. Farewell Jacen, Jaina, Anakin and Ben. Hello, Rey, Poe and Finn. Hope you bring Kylo Ren back to the Light Side (though that might be 4 years from now).

Loved seeing the slightly different perspectives and how things differed from the actual movie.

Pretty much is the movie in book form. Adds less than 5% of new material but does expand on some descriptions/situations which was nice.

This was a good listen on audible. Some things were a little different than in the movie.
