Recommend to: People who have read most of the upper tier EU books already.
This book wouldn't be the worst place from someone new to the EU to start. I would recommend the Thrawn trilogy, but this one starts soon after Return of the Jedi, and it is pretty good. The plot felt pretty slow in the first half, but I finally go into it. The new aliens in the book, the Ssi-Ruuk, are interesting on some levels but felt kind of silly. I read this book for the first time when I was in 5th grade, and just reread it. (I'm a Star Wars nerd...don't hate!) I have to say, while I still was engrossed by the story and the fact that it's Star Wars, the writing itself is pretty simplistic and seems to serve the purpose of moving the story forward than it actually delves into any real meat in regards to the characters, settings, and overall plot.
