This story starts out in a somewhat promising direction, but it doesn't really deliver on anything. Some things are bad ideas from the beginning like (view spoiler). Other parts of the plot began with promise and ended with disappointment. (view spoiler)

McIntyre also did a poor job capturing the original three characters. The two most butchered were Luke and Leia. (view spoiler)

This was one of the earlier books published in the EU so I cut it some slack, but a few decisions were made regarding universal rules that were bad decisions. (view spoiler)

One part really made me laugh when apparently Leia is now a method actor. (view spoiler)

I had no idea that this book was published prior to the A.C. Crispin Han Solo trilogy. I was sitting there thinking (view spoiler)

Ultimately, it's a brave decision (that I didn't like) to have a huge portion of your plot told from the POV of a small child. The villain, and his organization, was not substantiated and actually decreased in threat level as time passed. The characters did not act how they were established. It all comes together to not being very good.

I have been reading the Star Wars books in order (starting with Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter) for the last three years, and this has been one of the worst. None of the characters act like they should (Luke has a short fuse for heaven's sake), the story lacks detail and richness, and Waru is an omnipotent being who can't get it together enough to get his Jabba-like butt off his own platform. I am glad I am finished with this story, so I can promptly forget it. ...more
