Recommend to: Only to the more hardcore fans who want to read everything.

I didn't think this book was absolutely horrible like other readers seem to, but it had too many problems to be good. The biggest problems by far were related to the plot. It didn't make sense and it was too convoluted. (view spoiler) Stars: 2.5

One thing I did appreciate was how well Hambly portrayed Leia. Leia is a character that I think authors have struggled to really get, and this felt really well done. (It's not Hambly's fault that Leia's character is a mess at this point in the timeline. It's kind of hard to have realistic stories surrounding her when she is the chief of state.) Han, particularly one scene, not so much. (view spoiler)

I'm happy to be done with the Callista trilogy. I think this love interest for Luke was a decent general concept that was executed incredibly poorly. (view spoiler)

- I hated this scene. It's one thing that Hambly really screwed up Leia on. (view spoiler)

-Hambly's writing was generally much better than in Children of the Jedi, but there were still confusing descriptions in the early portions. There is a scene where a droid comes up to a lady and she for no apparent reason tells it, "My heart is yours." The droid responds with something like, "Your organ will not be necessary" and we just move on. I have no idea why stuff like this is in the book.
- I always roll my eyes when science fiction or fantasy authors will write about something that is also a part of our lives, but they'll change the spelling. Why do that? That is far more jarring than just having something from Earth in this universe. Hambly does this with coffee (her version is coffeine). It'd be like if you wrote a book and someone had a muh-sheen ghun.
- I was laughing when Hambly was describing how a video slicer was forced to work on Hutt pornography.
- I liked that Hambly did a pretty good job creating a sense of horror in a few scenes. (view spoiler)
- I just went and read a few reviews by others and I'm laughing at the ones defending this book because the Star Wars readers aren't smart enough and this book is just written too well. A message to these people: Confusing writing and huge plots holes do not make this some higher form of literature.
