Toby's family life isn't exactly what she thought and once she finds out, well, shit starts to hit the fan.

With the re-emergence of an old enemy, an enemy disguised as a dead friend, and family drama that can't be spoken due to several geas, things in Toby's world are a little different than usual.

While I love the series and thoroughly enjoyed this installment, I felt there was something missing. I couldn't put my finger on it but it may have something to do with the fact that a few key secon 4.6

While I love the series and thoroughly enjoyed this installment, I felt there was something missing. I couldn't put my finger on it but it may have something to do with the fact that a few key secondary characters were missing just as I was getting used to them or it may have something to do with the fact that Toby is maturing. She isn't running headlong into danger without at least a)coming up with some sort of plan or b) acknowledging that she may die doing this but at least she brought backup.

I like this new Toby but I think the fact that Toby kept mentioning it sort of left me with a burrowed frow. There was a touch too much telling and not enough showing. A problem I've never really had with this series.

I did love Toby and Tybalt time...hee hee. I'm such a sucker for them. The dialogue between them has gotten so much more awesome...which I didn't think could possibly happen.

There were a few times where I was a little annoyed at Toby. Especially when she started demanding that people were supposed to tell her certain things and it is a violation of trust not to have .

It's not that I don't get what she's saying but none of the information, or rather precious little of that information would've helped her out at all. It would've just made her angrier and more reckless. Granted, the person that withheld that information was like a father to her, but with maturity comes understanding and forgiveness. So, I really hope that happens next.

Luna...I sort of miss the old Luna and am quite unsure what's crawled up her ass. I understand, again, why she would be upset, but as a daughter of Firstborn, and with all that Toby has done for her, it's time to get the fuck over it.

So, while there was a pinch of something I was missing, Toby was still awesome and she held her own against some very powerful people. And while she did manage to end up bloody a lot, she didn't end up dead.

That's always progress.

Also, thank you for including more of the Luidshaeg. I think I love her. ...more

Loved it! Lots of questions answered; a true turning point in the series. Seanan McGuire is one awesome writer, and the October Daye series is still one of my faves. Can't wait to see where this is leading next! ...more
