I didn’t enjoy Carpe Corpus as much as the previous books in this series, one of the main reasons being that I get the feeling that the author might be beginning to run out of ideas. The series started off as a very exciting and original vampire story and continues on that way…until now. The one major problem I’m starting to have with this book wou I’m beginning to think that this series is becoming too drawn out, especially as having finished this book, I really think the story should end here.

The series started off as a very exciting and original vampire story and continues on that way…until now. The one major problem I’m starting to have with this book would be that it’s becoming too fantastical. Now, you may be thinking ‘well duh, this is a vampire book’ and I would agree with you. After reading five books of this series all about the town being run by vampires, all of a sudden we get introduced to this half vampire, half machine invention that can manifest itself into a ghost form. And this is the being that is actually the thing that enables Morganville to run as it does, i.e. creating the portals. Not to mention all that mojo with how Bishop could control Claire with a single tattoo on her wrist, and then Myrnin being able to set him on fire with a single click of his fingers like magic or something. This series seems to be spinning off into all these other supernatural elements that weren’t really involved when it first started, hence why I’m saying it feels as though the author has run out of ideas in how to progress with the plot and explain the questions she raised in previous books. It seems as though she has resorted to picking elements from other supernatural sources and incorporating it into her vampire books. I just think after having half of the series based solely on vampires, it feels a bit late for her to add all these other bits to it, and I would prefer that she stick with the bloodsuckers.

The thing with Monica being this major bully that everyone’s terrified off and so lets her do whatever she wants is getting really old,. Who cares if her brothers the mayor of vampire town, I really don’t see how that would enable her to control everyone and just get away with doing whatever she wants, and in my opinion she really needs to die at some point.

I didn’t expect Claire and Shane to actually have sex, considering it’s been five books and nothing’s happened in that area, but I have to say I am relieved that it’s finally happened as I was getting pretty sick of Claire moaning and whining on about how Shane won’t sleep with her because she’s too young. So well done to the author for finally getting that out of the way!

On the other hand, I do have respect for authors who aren’t afraid to kill of their characters when it’s obviously necessary, so even though I really did like Sam’s character and am sad that he’s gone, I have to give credit to Rachel Caine for being able to write that part.

I’m also excited to see how Myrnin’s character will turn out in the next book, seeing as he’s not crazy anymore, but that was one of the aspects of him that I liked - the craziness! So hopefully him being cured won’t affect the lovability of his character.

All in all, although I wasn’t exactly thrilled with this book, it wasn’t as bad as I probably made it out to be with my complaining! I do have to admit to enjoying reading it, just not as much as I did before and although I am planning to read the next one, I’m not desperately dying to get my hands on it like I used to be with this series. Hopefully the next book will be better or I might have to give up on this series.

I wanted to give this book 3.5 stars as I think that would better reflect how much I liked it, but as I can't I'll have to up the rating to a 4. ...more

All of the Morganville vampire books sort of blend together. It's always Claire and her friends to save the day against vampires and other terrible things. Not that, that is a bad thing. I really enjoy it!

In this one Bishop has taken over the town and everyone seems sure of certain death. Its a struggle to try and stop Bishop before he turns Morganville into nothing more than a ghost town. Claire is still under his power but it doesn't mean she doesn't have a few tricks up her sleeve.

Claire just turned 17 and she belongs to the head vampiress Amelia. Amelia's father has taken over the Morganville. It is up to Claire and her house mates to team up with the vampires to take their city back. A dear friend is lost, and a relationship finally blossoms. Must read to get more details. I laughed and CRIED on this book. ...more
