I'm embarrassed to admit that for me the funniest thing about this book was Nanny Ogg and her entertaining openness about her *ahem* romantic adventures. And also her drinking (how many people do you know who could knock down six glasses of absinthe and only feel a little uncomfy? okay, I admit I don't know exactly how bad that would be, but it's absinthe! it must be pretty bad, right? This is definitely my favorite in the series thus far. I’ve already dubbed Nanny Ogg my favorite Discworld character but I think I fell in love with her all over again in this one. But Nanny’s not the center of the story; she’s just the old lady I want to be some day. So fun. An early Discworld and the Granny and Nanny team is so strong it throws hilarity in every direction. Clearly, Esme Weatherwax has not become the (nearly) all-powerful witch she is in other parts of the series, but that makes her more enjoyable. Like one of those older women who may be ignorant of other parts of the world but clearly has a deep understanding of people and reality and has complete control over her own life.

And Nanny is so joyful! I highly recommend the audio version. The
