I was a bit dubious about the change in venue from Europe to an India/South Asian analog, but it adds an interesting twist to the story. It works well, in this particular situation.

I wanted to put this book down after 25 pages, when I wasn't hooked at all. But it came to me highly recommended, so I trudged through until 50 when I stopped reading it. However, I felt I couldn't give it a proper evaluation without finishing the book, (because the very slow beginning might turn around to a stunning end) so I did. And it was just as lackluster at the end as it was at the beginning for me.
