Again, I liked this book enormously more rereading it than the first time I read it. And again with Pratchett essentially inventing mythology that feels like it must've already existed. It feels like a fairy tale I heard long ago and just barely remember. Not the happy, Disney fairy tales, but one of those original ones, ones that end poorly to remind children why they should listen to their elders and not walk the winter woods at night. Of the four Tiffany Aching books, this was my least favorite. Despite that, though, I still enjoyed it. One part of the book that felt very real was Tiffany's reactions to the boys' attentions. It made me laugh because it felt so very real and teenagey.

Not my favorite Tiffany Aching. For one thing, Tiffany is NOT a teenager (she's 12 for almost the entire novel), but being a precocious girl we spend the book being told she is a teenager and the romantic attention being paid to her by an ancient elemental spirit is not creepy at all. Poor ancient elemental spirit. She totally led him on. And all the other witches tell her she needs to deal with it on her own and she'll be fine.

The Tiffany Aching Adventures is one of my favorite series, and the third installment did not disappoint. I loved every word of it! Sometimes I wish I had Feegles, but I guess I should be careful about wishing for that...
