I normally love pirate books and thought this one would be the same but as much as the plot flowed well I was often very confused. The whole book was written in first person of the pirate king Jalen Shenn and was therefore all in his style of speaking and it was just too different for me to be able to grasp what was going on.
On top of that I actually think it would have been better in something other than first person as it made it feel like I was just being told stuff all the time.

Captain Jalen Delphe Shenn and his crew of the Dragon Wynd are being sentenced to the shallows or death for treason against Malecrete the Usurper before being sentenced to hang. I received Flag of Bones The Voyages of the Dragon Wynd by Elle Pepper as a R2R. And boy am I glad I signed up! First set your mind for some Pirate/Fantasy not your children stories. Immerse into the pirate language (sometimes confusing), the codes to be honored by all, good and evil. Follow Captain Jalen on his journey with his ship The Dragon Wynd and his crew. Having received a free copy of this from the author for review I would like to note that this has not biased my review in any way.
This book follows Jalen Shenn, a not so typical pirate, as he fights the Empire and tries to find his family as well as protecting himself, his crew and his ship. The book combines swash-buckling pirate adventure and a supernatural twist that does take a little getting used to but once you do it is well worth it.
