What Members Thought

Man, it took me like a whole month to read this book. I don't know why.
Anyway ... I really liked this in the beginning, and I enjoyed the concept. The execution fell a little flat for me, though.
Some general thoughts:
- I felt it went on for way too long, and the plot really wandered all over the place sometimes, to the point where I found it difficult to follow.
- I liked Agatha. Sophie, on the other hand, I just .... could not understand. She was difficult to sympathize with, and I didn't fully ...more

Great cover, brilliant concept—what could possible go wrong?
Um. Pretty much everything.
First off, I found this book in the Young Adult section of my library. Upon reading the book, however, I soon realised that this would probably be suited to people much younger than I am. It felt much more like Middle Grade. It was possibly shelved as Young Adult because it is quite long. I don’t mind Middle Grade, but I don’t particularly like it, either—unless it’s up to Harry Potter standards, which this wa ...more

I really liked the beginning of this one and liked Agatha throughout. My main issue was with Sophie. She was always a shrill and mean girl and I could not understand why Agatha would not see that and let her go. I also thought parts of the book contradicted one another - Sophie's roommates hated her then the worshiped her - then they hated her - then the feared her. Sophie could not do anything without Agatha's help and then the next minute she is more powerful than all the teachers. Things like

I really wish Goodreads did half stars because I gave this book 3.5 stars on my blog.
I started off really excited about reading this book. It was a lot of fun but then towards the middle it started to lag and seem like it was never going to end. I felt like there was a couple of times it could have ended and then I would see I had a lot more to read.
What’s it about?
