What Members Thought

Liked it, didn't love it. I thought it started off good, but it lost impact as it went on. The premise was interesting, but there wasn't much justification behind it. It was like the author just wanted to write some book about a bunch of teenagers killing each other lord-of-the-flies style, but couldn't think of a good reason why the characters would be doing so. The explanation was really vague, like, "The government is forcing people to do this because they want to ... show their power ..." ??

Oh. My. Gosh. This book was SO GOOD! I started it yesterday, my mom took it away because I was reading into the hours of the morning. The plot was ridiculously amazing, I swear this is the best book in the entire world. They whole time you are just like WOW. Now I have to wait to read Catching Fire until December! Oh, no! That is like . . . 6 months minus a few days! I will probably die! Oh, but when all of the tributes came back as wolves I was freaking out . . . I was just glad she didn't have

This possibly has to be my new favorite book. My mom read it before me and told me she couldn't put it down, which is unusual because she never reads young adult novels. But... wow. I don't think I've ever gotten into a book as much as I did with this one. I was on the edge of my seat, biting my nails the entire time, nervous about what was going to happen, if anyone was going to die, or even if the main character was going to come out alive. I never review books; I find I don't have much to say

It's just a fast-paced, well-told story. Great read. Holds up on a second read, which I just did.

Oh my. I just finished this book and now I want to go out and buy the second one. Now. I don't think I can wait till it comes in a the library. I couldn't put it down, and stayed up into the wee morning hours reading the past 2 nights.
I was appalled at first by the premise of the book - how the government puts on a game show where kids are chosen as tributes by drawing names out of a bowl. The tributes are then put in an arena and forced to hunt each other down and be the last survivor on live ...more

Definitely a new favorite, Book #1 in The Hunger Games series will leave you coming back for more. The characters are well developed and likable, the plot is easy to understand, and the battle that ensues is excellent and full of action. I would recommend this book for adults and YA readers alike. Younger readers beware due to strong violence. Bottom line: Collins weaves a brilliant world with interesting characters and a straightforward commentary on today's society and where that could take us

Admittedly, I haven't read much in either the Fantasy or Science Fiction realms, but if The Hunger Games is any kind of predictor, I'll be seeking out more of this genre in the near future.
Collins does a wonderful job of infusing her futuristic world (or not-so-futuristic world...) with equal parts imagination, romance, tragedy, humanity, and perseverance that it's hard not to be seduced by the story and characters. Suddenly, Panem is real, as terrifying as that thought might be.

At first I was not sure what I thought of this book. But it seemed that every time I thought of putting it down Suzanne dropped a bomb that had me aching for more. You were able to relate to the characters and you felt for them in their situation. You laughed, cried, wanted to help or hurt others along with the characters in the book. You felt love and heart break...begging the question what will happen next...now that the truth is out. Can't wait for the second...which just came in form the lib
